Reader Question
Hi, if i turn my key and the starter does not click or turn the engine, could it be that the starter is not good?
Hey there,
I would turn on your headlights and have someone watch them as you try to start the engine. If the headlights are dim, or do not come on at all….you could have a bad battery or a bad connection at the battery cables. If the lights dim when you try to start the engine, you probably have a bad battery or a bad starter motor.
If the lights go out when you turn the key to start you probably have a bad connection at the battery cables. If you suspect a bad starter, you can sometimes get under the vehicle and lightly tap on the side of the starter with a block of wood AS someone holds down the ignition key. This can help jump start a weak starter motor. Make sure the car is in park with the park brake on and the person in the car has their foot on the brake!
Also try to start the engine in NEUTRAL and see if that does the trick, you could have a transmission linkage problem or a problem with the neutral safety switch.
Blessings,
Austin Davis

I do not have a comment for this question but I am trying to post a question for my problem and I could not find a way of doing it on your sytem.
This is my question. I have a Nissan Maxima 1996 that would crannk but would not start. Two weeks ago a licenced mechanic tuned it up and the next morning the car would crank but would not start. I towed it to the mechanic and everything seems fine including the sensors. The mechanic gave up and could not tell me what is wrong with my baby.
any help would be very much appreciated.
