Audi was falling a little behind before by not taking advantage of the burgeoning luxury SUV section of the market. Now, with the Q7, it’s arriving fashionably late and filling the hole in its offers.

The Q7 is Audi’s first shot at a sport-utility vehicle, but they make it look like it’s all old-hat for them. This elegant newcomer comes with a complement of competent steering and brakes, and a solid exterior. The Q7, at a base price of less than $50,000, comes with three rows of seating and the all-wheel drive, a system in which the Audi makers have much experience.

The 3.6 model is powered by V6 engine with 280 horsepower and 265 pound feet of torque. It comes with
