Hello, Thanks for the website I am sure its helped thousands of people like me. I have a 1997 Jetta, 4 cylinder. Yesterday I decided to give it a tune-up myself. I ordered all of the parts, sparks, cables, cap & rotor. I was a piece of cake.

I had a 2001 BMW 323i and i used to give that a tune up w/o any problems. When I put everything back together, the car wouldn’t start. After a few tries, the car started but the engine was of beat, and it seems not to have enough power to take off.

My only concern would be…Did I put the cables back in the same order? I thought I made sure I did, But you never know. Could you plse help me, maybe with some pictures, clockwise, counter-clock wise…could you let me know what the order of the cables is?

Hey there Alejandro

You probably have the firing order off (spark plug wire on the wrong spark plug), but before you do anything I would remove the spark plugs one at a time so you don’t get the wires confused more than they could be now and check to make sure you did not bend the spark plug electrode down when you installed the plugs.

Sometimes the spark plugs hit the engine or exhaust manifold when you try to install them and it will bend the grounding electrode causing it to hit the center of the spark plug.

I did not find a picture, but found this firing order and spark plug gap information for a 1995 Jetta

Designed in Germany, the Volkswagen Jetta, and old name in car history, has a lot of the features and traits of a European luxury car. At the same time, it comes in such low prices that it’s available to American customers looking for a more economic solution in their car buying. The Jetta’s pricing starts as low as just over $16,000.

Redesigned in 2005, the Jetta is still fresh in 2007. A four-door sedan that comes in four models with different engine sizes and features, the Jetta starts off being reasonably priced, but it’s price practically doubles once we reach the final model, the GLI.

The base Jetta (the cheapest one) and the Jetta 2.5 (falling just short of $18k) come with a 2.5 liter inline five cylinder engine with 150 horsepower and 170 pound feet of torque and a five speed manual transmission. Both can also be upgraded to a six speed automatic transmission, which comes with a manual shift feature.

This mid-sized sedan is alike in size to cars such as the Camry and Accord, and while the Passat was updated and made all new for 2006, in 2007 it’s fairly unchanged expect for the addition of wagon versions to the model’s lineup. It’s longer and wider than its predecessors, so that a 6-foot passenger can sit behind a 6-foot driver now without provoking any road rage. The last model was one of the safest cars in the United States, and this version only does more to improve on that.

With precise steering and a responsive six-speed automatic transmission, the brakes are also fantastic on this sedan with a V6 engine. It has great torque and goes from 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds. With 35.8 feet of cargo space, this sedan has 18/26 city/highway mpg, even with the all-wheel drive, but it’s still more easy to take car of than a hulking SUV.

You can get the Passat as either a four door sedan or a five door wagon, and the Wagons are automatic only. Options include an electronic parking brake, power sunroof, Sirius Satellite Radio, 17 inch Le Mans alloy wheels, and heated front seats.

The safety features are extensive. All models come with front airbags as well as side-impact airbags mounted on the seats for the driver and front passenger; curtain airbags on the side; four-wheel disc brakes; ABS; tire-pressure monitor; speed-variable electromechanical steering; electronic stability control; and a security system. You can also add-on rear-seat side-impact airbags for a couple hundred extra.

Overall, this safe, durable car is a great choice for Volkswagen fans, and even though it remains the same as the 2006 version, it’s still innovative compared to the competition.
