i paid 1900.00 to have a head gasket, water pump and timeing belt put on a 1995 non turbo eclipse.  1450 labor, rest parts . no head work done. does anyone know if this is over book time. of course i still have the oil leak from the head gasket which is why i had it done.  mechanic said it was book time. im takeing it back tomorrow. he says oil leaks are common with this engine. any comments on oil leaks that cant be stopped with these engines. he says it is the same engine as neons have. am i being taken for a ride or what.

It is not the same engine as in the Neon, but that makes no difference. A properly repaired head gasket will not leak oil. Possibilities include(1) a warped head that should have been milled or (2) or improperly torqued head bolts.

One well-known solution for Neon owners is to back off each headbolt and then re-torque to proper specs. Of course this will do you no good if the head is warped.
