Rear view mirror attachment
« on: March 20, 2012, 05:05:35 PM »
Today my rear view mirror fell off the windshield.  It was a hot day and my 15 year old Grand Prix finally let go of it.

I got the adhesive for this very purpose from the auto parts store and have read over the instructions but am curious if anyone has any other advice beyond the instructions.  It seems my biggest difficulty will be removing the metal pad from the mirror base in order to attach it to the windshield first but I probably just need to give it a closer inspection.

There may be a small lock tab that needs to be released.  It it has one, one end will have a small cutout area where you can insert a small screwdriver or a pick to release the tab.  Just be sure the window is clean and dry.  Let the tab cure for at least 24 hours before attaching mirror.

If you follow the instructions, you shouldn't have any problems.  Before you scrape off the old adhesive with a razor, mark the spot with a sticker or piece of tape on the outside of the windshield, so you know where to glue the mirror tab.  Just make sure that both surfaces are clean and oil free when you go to apply your primer.   Don't do it in the hot sun either.  For the love of GOD, don't glue the tab on backwards or upside down.

If you are the type of person that hangs stuff off the mirror, like beads, fuzzy dice, pictures of Connie or Way2old, knick knacks, and other weight bearing items, you might to refrain from that...LOL

Not to date.  The only problem is that I can't see myself in mirrors for some odd reason.  The vein on Connie's neck is looking yummy too.
