Auto Repair Car Questions / To buy or not to buy.

I'm looking into buying a 1988 lebaron turbo conv.  It's $1000.  Everything in great shape (cue ominous music) EXCEPT it needs the center support bearing in the front passenger side axle assembly replaced.  The guy selling says that it's a super rare part...hence the low price.  My question - is thus a complete deal breaker for me?  I am not a mechanic, although I have some very talented friends.  Can this be fixed with another assembly?  I'd love to get a deal..,but don't want a $1000 doorstop becaus of a rare $40 part. 

Any advice from the experts?  Thanks!
