"Wow, the lowest rates I found!" Darcie D. Reston VA

Reader Question: Hey Austin, I am about to buy my son a muscle car and I was wondering what the car insurance rates would be for it, do you know? When I say muscle car.....I mean a Ford Mustang with a V8 engine.

Thanks,

Audrey in Tennesse

Hey there Audrey,

My first question to you would be how old is he and my second question is how much do you want to spend cuz you are going to spend a lot. You did not mention what year this so called muscle car was, so I am assuming it is a fairly new vehicle.

If this is a new vehicle, make sure it has all the air bag and anti lock brake features and anti theft devices availeable. You will want all the available discounts possible.

Get a muscle car insurance quote, via the zip code form on the right and request a $1,000 or $1,500 deductible amount. The higher the better. You only pay the deductible when the claim is paid by YOUR insurance company, so don't fret to much about that high number. The savings in annual premium will be more than the deductible amount in 2-3 years.

Also consider some of the following discounts that might be available to you:

1. Good grades for students

2. Combine your auto and home or life and home coverage together

3. Do you belong to a credit union, even some colleges have an alumni discount

4. Can you buy online - small discount, but helps

5. Are you retired or active military

6. How is your credit score and credit payment history, low scores can mean higher insurance premiums

7. Can your son take defensive driving, may or may not help that much, depends on carrier

8. Keep comparing companies, I JUST switched to Liberty Mutual from Travelers, got better coverage and saved over $600 a year on my home, auto and personal liabilty umbrella

I'm praying for a low rate and a safe driving son!

Blessings,

Austin Davis
