These are pictures of a valve cover on a 1996 Chevy Blazer with a V-6 engine.

This is a valve cover on the engine. On V (V8, or V6) engines the valve cover mount at a slant on the engine. This slant causes the oil to pool at the bottom of the cover. The valve cover gasket very rarely leaks at the top of the valve cover.
