It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a station wagon on the road, and it’s surprising to see that they’re stil around. But with the Dodge Magnum, a full size station wagon with an extended space for passengers and cargo, it’s obvious that the station wagon is not ready to go out, at least not quietly. In fact, the Dodge Magnum is a nice, rounded, modern car that is unique only in its length and keeps up with the current designs in others ways. It proves, once and for all, that a station wagon can look good without compromising what it is.
Not only does the Magnum look good, but it has a sportier feel with aggressive engines that allow for speeds unseemly in a family car. It’s base level model alone comes with a 2.5 liter V6 engine, and you can upgrade that to a 6.1 liter V8 with 425 horsepower. Quite a lot for such a square looking car. And though its fuel economy isn’t great, it’s still pretty good for the amount of heat packed under the lid of its trunk. With twenty-five to thirty miles per gallon, you can get a pretty good ways without having to fill up.
The Magnum comes in four levels.
- The SE. 2.7 liter V6 engine with a towing capacity of 1000 pounds. Cloth interior, AC, cruise control, remote entry, rack and pinion steering, 17 inch tires, and a tilt-and-telescope steering wheel.
- The SXT. 3.5 liter V6 and five speed automatic with AutoStick. Also open in all wheel drive. Anti lock brake system and electronic stability control, as well as tinted glass, and the option of a navigation system.
- The R/T. 5.7 liter V8 Hemi engine as well as five speed automatic with AutoStick. Leather interior, powerful brakes, a gas tank that can fit 19 gallons, 18 inch wheels, dual exhaust, fog lamps, and a six speaker sound system.
- The SRT8. 6.1 liter V8 Hemi engine with five speed automatic with AutoStick. Comes with power sport-bolstered front seats, as well as cruise control, ESP, antilock brakes with Brake Assist, 20 by 9 inch aluminum wheels, and firmer suspension.
