Air Conditioner Not Cold At Idle

Austin Davis, January 21, 2007

Hi there Austin,

The A/C  in my car does not blow cold when I am sitting still or going slow speeds.  When I get on the freeway it cools ok….not ice cold, but better than at idle.

Thanks,

Lester

Hey Lester,

Depending on what kind of vehicle this is, you probably have a problem with one of the following:

1.  bad electric cooling fan motor

2. low on Freon due to a leak in the system

3. weak a/c compressor that is not pumping enough Freon at low speeds

4. engine is overheating or running hot

The easiest thing is to check the cooling fan operation, the other suggestions will require a set of A/C gauges to test the system pressures and Freon level.

Blessings,

Austin Davis
