Service Engine Soon Light Stays On

Austin Davis, February 28, 2012October 20, 2014

I HAVE A CADILLAC AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHTS STAYS ON….DO YOU THINK THIS IS ANYTHING MAJOR….MY MOTHER PASSED AWAY LAST MONTH FOR IT WAS HER CAR AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT SINCE THEN…..IT ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES …….THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME…

Debbie

Howdy Debbie,

The YELLOW check engine or service engine soon light usually means there was a malfunction in one of the many engine control sensors, usually dealing with the emissions systems.

The color is yellow for a reason…it means caution, something has happened, get it looked into at your convenience. RED engine lights mean danger stop immediately.

Usually nothing severe happens if you continue to drive with this light on the dash, poor fuel mileage and a change in engine performance are the most common complaints.

Of course you will not be able to renew your safety inspection sticker or pass the state emissions test until you repair the problem and get the light to stay off.

Have you read my articles about this?
