Steering stops – A small piece of rubber or plastic is mounted to the lower control arm or on the steering knuckle that acts as a door stop for the wheel radius. Â The steering stop will not allow the wheel to turn beyond the recommended turning radius. Â I included this picture because I receive a few emails each month with complaints of a loud creaking noise when the steering wheel is turned all the way in one direction. Â The metal steering stops can become rusty and make a creak noise when the opposing stop makes contact. Â The solution to the noise is to apply a thin layer of grease on the stops.
