Tune Up Cost

Austin Davis, February 6, 2012July 9, 2016

Reader Question

Hey Austin
I have a Nissan Pathfinder with approximately 195,000 miles. I have a V6 engine.
Is it necessary to get a major tune up? What is done (changed) when you get a major tune up? What is an approximate cost for this service? How often should it be done?
Thank you for your attention and assistance. I look forward to your reply.

Hey there again,
Here is an article I wrote about tune ups, what they are and what they are NOT. How much does a tune up cost?

Prices vary widely per shop, and what they consider a tune up really consists of.
Spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and ignition rotor, fuel and air filters are what I would recommend you replace..IF you really need them. These items should be inspected and or replaced about every 60K miles. Air and fuel filters should be checked and replaced every 20K miles

Cost? You could spend $295-350 on the items listed above.
Cleaning the throttle body and running some high powered intake cleaner into the fuel injectors and upper intake chamber would also be something I would inspect and possibly recommend at this mileage or if it has been more than 50K miles since the last service. This would add an additional $150-175 to the tune up price.

Throttle body cleaning video I made for you

Blessings,
Austin Davis
