Accident forgiveness part 2

Austin-1, July 4, 2007

So now you know about accident forgiveness for your car insurance coverage. What do you do next?

  • Maybe you haven’t been in an accident yet. If you haven’t, now’s a good time to prepare. Call up your car insurance company and find out if they offer accident forgiveness for your first at fault accident. Find out what kind of policies they have, and whether they offer total forgiveness or partial forgiveness. Most importantly, find out if you would qualify for the forgiveness if you got into an accident. If your company does not offer forgiveness, it might be time to start shopping around again. After all, forgiveness could save you hundreds, even thousands, of dollars on your insurance.
  • If you already do have an accident, check with your car insurance provider to see if they offer accident forgiveness and if you qualify. If you don’t, don’t fret. Some companies offer accident forgiveness as bait to get new customers, so if you switch companies you might be able to get it forgiven even if it happened before you were with that company. Shop around and compare quotes to find out what the best way is to go.
  • Heck, always shop around. Every time something new happens to affect your policy, start looking. You are not in a long term relationship here. If you add a new car, a new name, move, get in a wreck, whatever happens, start looking at the competition to make sure that you’re getting the best deal. There’s shame in asking about little extras like accident forgiveness and discounts, because these could save you bags of gold in the future.

Cheers,

Fashun Guadarrama.
